ANAHEIM, Calif. – PBR’s (Professional Bull Riders) Brazilian newcomer Wallace de Oliveira earned his second round win of the season with his 89.25-point ride in Round 1 of the Anaheim Invitational, part of the 2016 Built Ford Tough Series, at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California, on Friday night. The 36-year-old covered Cash Ya Out (Dakota Rodeo/Chad Berger/Cymbaluk Cattle Co.) to notch his round victory, collecting 100 PBR world standings points and the event lead.
Second place went to Robson Palermo with 88.5 points atop Cooper Tires Brown Sugar (Dakota Rodeo/Chad Berger/Clay Struve/Julie Rosen) for 60 world standings points, while Joao Ricardo Vieira earned a third-place finish and 50 points toward the PBR world standings with his 87.5-point effort on Swashbuckler (Dakota Rodeo/Chad Berger/Clay Struve/Julie Rosen).
Eduardo Aparecido rode Dream Catcher (Evan Matthews) for 87.25 points and 40 world standings points and fourth place, while Derek Kolbaba picked up 30 world standings points for fifth place with an 87-point ride on Bottoms Up (K&K Cattle Co.).
Rounding out the Top 7 were Cody Nance and Guilherme Marchi tying for sixth place with 86.25-point rides on El Guerro (K&K Cattle Co.) and Yahoo (Hebert Bucking Bulls), respectively. Both Nance and Marchi earned 10 points towards the world standings.
Round 2 of the Anaheim Invitational takes place Saturday, Jan. 30 at 6:50 p.m. PT. CBS Sports Network will broadcast the competition live beginning at 10 p.m. ET. The second PBR 15/15 Bucking Battle of the 2016 season will be held immediately following Round 2 on Saturday, featuring the Top 15 riders in the world competing against the 15 highest-ranked bulls in Anaheim for an additional purse of $21,000. The bulls are randomly assigned a position from 1-15, then the riders are matched with their bulls based upon their own current rankings in the PBR world standings. World standings bonus points will be up for grabs and count toward the season’s rankings, but DO NOT count toward determining the event winner in Anaheim.
The 15/15 Bucking Battle will air on CBS Television Network on Sunday at noon p.m. ET.
Bullfighters Only (BFO) and the PBR (Professional Bull Riders) have joined forces to feature the most-talented freestyle bullfighters in the world during BFO competitions, with the second one taking place during intermission Friday in Anaheim.
PBR Dickies Bullfighter Cody Webster qualified to compete at THE AMERICAN with his 84.5-point performance for which he won $3,000, tying with Nate Jestes for the lead in the BFO standings. Schell Apple took home $1,500 with a second-place finish after executing a Superman jump and scoring 84 points, while Erick Schwindt placed third with 81.5 points and earned $500. Highlights from the BFO competition can be seen during the PBR’s CBS Sports Network broadcast on Sunday at 8 p.m. ET.
