NASHVILLE, Tenn. - There are a lot of guys here who have at least one score, but only two riders who are perfect on two. There will be a battle among the one-score riders to earn a spot in the Championship Round, and the guys at the bottom of the pack really need big scores in this round.
Event Leaders:
Brendon Clark on 215 I'm Back:
This is not one of the easiest to ride bulls in this round, but
Clark is pretty familiar with him. They've met three times, twice
resulting in a no score at Built Ford Tough Series events, but
Clark won their last match in a Redding, California Touring Pro
event in July.
Ryan Dirteater on 766 Tick:
This is a good little bull, almost a smaller version of Grey Ghost
- the bull that Dirteater had in Round 1, but this bull is faster
and snappier. He likes to go to the right, and he has not been
ridden by a left-handed rider yet.
Ben Jones on 603 Gypsy Boots:
Like the first two bulls picked, this one also has a pretty
impressive buckoff record. He's been ridden only twice in 16 career
outs, but Jones is one of the two riders that have bested him. They
met at the World Finals, where Jones scored 86.25 points.
Chris Shivers on U2 Prince Albert:
This could be a big score. Kody Lostroh was 89 points on Prince
Albert in Billings earlier this year, but since the break this bull
has delivered three 91 plus point rides at Touring Pro events, and
none of those riders was Shivers. It's been mentioned a lot how
Shivers manages to outscore other riders, and it's true. This is
due in part to the fact that he is a small guy. Bulls statistically
score higher with small guys aboard, and you will see the same
phenomenon with Renato Nunes and Chase
Outlaw, for example. The other part of it is that Chris's
riding style is just pretty to watch. If you watch Silvano
Alves, sometimes he makes bulls look easy. Chris's style
makes easy bulls look tougher than they are, and it's not a
conscious thing he does - it's just the way he rides.
Josh Moorer on P6 How We Roll:
We don't have a lot of stats on Moorer; he was invited here
because he won the Touring Pro event in Archdale, N.C., about a
week ago. He appears to be not much more than 12 years old. After
watching him ride last night, it's hard for me to imagine this bull
will throw him off. How We Roll is ridden roughly half the time by
riders at this level, and from the looks of Moorer, he belongs at
this level.
Aaron Roy on -215 Amy's Pet:
I'm always a little surprised when this bull doesn't get picked in
the top two bulls in a draft round, but Roy has to be happy he fell
this far. J.B. Mauney was 93 points on him in
Molalla, Ore., a little more than a month ago. Amy's Pet isn't
always good enough to deliver a round win, but he's a solid bull
that most of these guys are capable of riding.
Robson Palermo on 694 Dark Shadow:
Luke Snyder was 90 points on Dark Shadow in Idaho
back in May. Palermo could get a big score here. What is said about
Chris Shivers applies to Palermo as well. He is a smaller guy,
looks good on bulls, and makes bulls look better than they are.
Silvano Alves on 797 Express:
This bull's numbers are very similar to Chin
Music, the bull Alves had in Round 1. He's been ridden 67
percent of the time by right handed riders. Alves rode him in
Indianapolis earlier this season for 83.75 points.
Caleb Sanderson on 38 Keepin' It Real:
Keepin' It Real is a Built Ford Tough Series veteran, and riders
have earned a score on him 10 times in 17 career outs. He is one of
the more rider-friendly bulls in this round.
J.B. Mauney on 532 The Upgrade:
Mauney may be looking for revenge on this bull. They met in
Wichita about a year ago, and Mauney hit the ground at 6.16
seconds. Upgrade was pretty impressive in San Antonio with
Bart Miller.
Chase Outlaw on 37S Red Hot:
This is a rematch from Tulsa, Okla., where Outlaw was 89.25 points
on Red Hot in the first short round. Red Hot is a borderline pick
for the first short round at most events, which makes him a great
pick in most long rounds he appears in.
Guilherme Marchi on 115 Mr. Slim:
When the Panhandle Slim clones first appeared in 2009-2010, there
was a lot of controversy over whether they would perform, and
whether they would last, and those questions have largely been
answered now. Mr. Slim has logged around for 53 professional level
outs, which is more than most bulls ever reach, and while he may
not be quite as good as Panhandle Slim was, he has been a
consistent high level performer. He is still unridden by
left-handed riders, but he's been ridden about 35 percent of the
time by righties. Marchi was 87 points on him in Pueblo, Colo., in
2011.
Fabiano Vieira on 631 Tapout:
This bull forced Valdiron Oliveira to tap out at
7.81 seconds in San Antonio. Overall he's been ridden only 4 times
in 21 career outs, with 3 of those rides coming at Built Ford Tough
Series events.
Austin Meier on V33 TrailersDirect.com:
Back in June, Cody Nance was 93 points on this
bull at a Touring Pro event in Huntsville, Ala. This is a young
bull who has been very impressive. He's only had one bad out in his
career, and Austin Meier was there for it. They
met in Atlanta, Ga., earlier this year, where Meier received a
re-ride.
L.J. Jenkins on 310B Angry Bob:
Jenkins should get another score here. Even picking this far down
in the draft, he found a matchup that favors him. Angry Bob has
been ridden 3 times in 5 career outs, and all 3 of those by right
handed riders.
Marco Eguchi on 409 Shortcut:
Eguchi has been injured and struggling lately, but this is a bull
he should be favored on. Shortcut has been ridden 13 times in 20
Built Ford Tough Series outs.
